There are so many ways to enjoy the Earth and show our respect for Mother Nature. Spokane is filled with beautiful mountains, natural lakes, rivers, hiking trails, and more that inspire us to go outside.

It’s time to put down the screens, disconnect from our digital lives, and reconnect with nature!

If you don’t know how you’re going to spend Earth Day this year, here are 5 ways you can help celebrate the Earth.

  1. Pick a state park

Spokane is home to some beautiful state parks, including Riverside State Park and Mount Spokane State Park. Both have incredible hiking trails, biking trails, and beautiful scenery that will surely help you connect with nature. Bring the family or grab a friend!

  1. Plant a tree

A great way to celebrate the Earth is to plant a tree! There are tons of local nonprofit groups that get together on Earth Day to plant trees around the community. In fact, volunteers are needed for tree planting here in Spokane! Click here to find out more!

  1. Plant your own food

Take a look at the labels on your food. If you don’t recognize or understand half of the ingredients listed on the label, chances are it’s probably not good for you or the environment.

This Earth Day, plant one thing that can be consumed by you or your family. Start small with a parsley plant in the window, or go all out and plant a whole garden! You can eat easy knowing your food is made with organic, non-GMO ingredients that are better for you and the Earth!

  1. Clean up your neighborhood

No matter where you live, there will always be litter. Gather together your friends in the neighborhood and spend an hour or two picking up trash! Not only are you connecting with members of your community, you’re getting in a good walk, spending time outside, and making the Earth a cleaner place for everyone to enjoy!

  1. Is it that obvious? Recycle!

There are so many ways we can recycle plastic and glass that go beyond simply putting them inside the big blue bin.

Check out Pinterest or Nifty for some fun DIY recycling projects, like this repurposed reusable grocery tote!

We hope that we’ve given you some good ideas to help celebrate the Earth this Saturday!
